What You Can Do

Features: The secretive least bittern, Ixobrychus exilis, is a very small and thin wading bird of the Areidae family (11-14 inches). Their distinguishing feature is the large buff wing patch visible during flight and at rest.

Habitat: Least bitterns can be found in marshes and reedy ponds straddling tall grasses.

Voice: The call of the least bittern is a low muted coo-coo-coo. Its voice can also reach a loud kiack-kack-kack when in contact.
