| Feeding:
Dives directly into water for fish. When feeding on fish, there is
usually nothing left of the fish remaining. They can take several
hours to completely tear and consume large fish. In areas where fish
are abundant, they tend to become very picky about what they will
eat. Ospreys have been documented carrying fish with them during migration.
Often, there are many failed attempts at diving before an osprey makes
a successful catch, and they will hold on to it. Features:
12” This is a brown and so-called “pigeon-headed”
sandpiper. It has a short bill, small head, large eyes, thin neck,
and a long tail. Its posture is very erect in nature. It can be
seen perching on poles or fence posts on nesting grounds, holding
its winds elevated upon alighting.

A cascade of yodeling whistles: whoooleee, wheeelooooooo.
Habitat:
Mid and tall-grass prairies, open meadows, fields, airports, and
freshly mowed and plowed fields.
